air fryer french fries
- 1 lb russet potatoes
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt, or to taste
- ⅛ tsp ground black pepper, or to taste
- ⅛ tsp garlic powder
- ⅛ tsp paprika
Rinse the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove dirt. Peel if preferred, or leave the skins on for a rustic version.
Slice potatoes lengthwise into even ¼-inch thick strips. Try to make all fries a similar size for even cooking.
Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for 10–15 minutes to wash off excess starch.
Drain and pat the fries dry using paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Drying is key to crispiness.
If your air fryer requires preheating, set it to 380°F (193°C) and let it warm up for 2–3 minutes.
Place fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd. Cook in batches if necessary.
Air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 10 minutes. Shake the basket or turn the fries halfway through for even cooking.
Continue cooking for an additional 6–10 minutes, shaking the basket once more until fries are golden and crispy.
Transfer fries to a plate and serve hot. Optional: Garnish with chopped parsley or additional seasoning.
To reheat leftovers, return fries to the air fryer and cook at 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes until crispy.
