Ingredients

air fryer french fries

  • 1 lb russet potatoes
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt, or to taste
  • tsp ground black pepper, or to taste
  • tsp garlic powder
  • tsp paprika

Instructions

  • Rinse the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove dirt. Peel if preferred, or leave the skins on for a rustic version.
  • Slice potatoes lengthwise into even ¼-inch thick strips. Try to make all fries a similar size for even cooking.
  • Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for 10–15 minutes to wash off excess starch.
  • Drain and pat the fries dry using paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Drying is key to crispiness.
  • If your air fryer requires preheating, set it to 380°F (193°C) and let it warm up for 2–3 minutes.
  • Place fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd. Cook in batches if necessary.
  • Air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 10 minutes. Shake the basket or turn the fries halfway through for even cooking.
  • Continue cooking for an additional 6–10 minutes, shaking the basket once more until fries are golden and crispy.
  • Transfer fries to a plate and serve hot. Optional: Garnish with chopped parsley or additional seasoning.
  • To reheat leftovers, return fries to the air fryer and cook at 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes until crispy.
