Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 11.5 ounces (about 2 cups) chocolate chips, divided
  • ¾ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Using an electric mixer, cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar (3 minutes).
  • Add eggs and vanilla; beat for another 3 minutes.
  • Mix in flour, baking soda, and salt (2 minutes).
  • Fold in 1½ cups chocolate chips.
  • Spread dough evenly in prepared pan.
  • Top with remaining ½ cup chocolate chips, pressing gently.
  • Bake 25-30 minutes until lightly brown and slightly firm. Pro tip: For chewier bars, slightly underbake
  • Cool completely on wire rack.
  • Cut into squares and serve.
